Borough Assessor's Office and Tax Collector

Assessor's Office
Welcome from the Chatham Borough Assessor's Office:

The assessor is responsible for the fair assessment of all real property within the municipality in order that the tax burden may be distributed equally.

An annual Tax List is prepared by the assessor and filed with the Morris County Board of Taxation. To produce this list the assessor must identify and value each property as well as maintain an accurate record of property ownership.

The assessor also administers numerous programs required by New Jersey State Statute including tax exemptions to qualified parties, sales ratio study for county equalized tax purposes, farmland assessment and annual assessment notification.

Please do not hesitate to call the office if you have any questions or concerns regarding your assessed value or any of the programs we administer.

If you finish paying off your mortgage mid year you must notify our department
so that all future correspondence will go to you instead of the mortgage company.
You are then to use the “this is not a bill for advice only” copy of your tax bill
to make your payments with. It is entirely up to you to find out when the next
quarter is due since bills only go out once per year and we have no way of
knowing unless notified by you or your mortgage company that your mortgage
company will no longer be paying your taxes.

The following applications are available at Borough hall in the tax department:

Veterans or Widow of Veterans Deduction $250.00 per year if you meet qualifications
