Chatham Borough Celebrates First State Semi-Finalist for Louis Bay Future Municipal Leaders Scholarship

Chatham, NJ — April 21, 2016 — Chatham Borough is proud to announce that Chatham resident and Chatham High School Senior Andres Garcia has been named the municipality’s first-ever state semi-finalist for the Louis Bay Future Municipal Leaders Scholarship, a prestigious program that recognizes outstanding students committed to public service and local government leadership.

On April 13, Garcia was formally recognized at a meeting of the Borough Council, where he was introduced to elected officials and attendees. He was acknowledged for his achievement as a state semi-finalist and his demonstrated interest in civic engagement and public service.

“I wanted to share my gratitude for the multi-layered work that Chatham Borough’s municipal government deals with on a daily basis,” said Garcia. “The Louis Bay Scholarship gave me the opportunity to not only express that appreciation, but also allowed me to bring wider, much-deserved attention to the municipal leaders and staff who’ve dedicated their time to improving our community.”

“We are incredibly proud of Andres and this outstanding accomplishment,” said Carolyn Dempsey, Mayor of Chatham Borough. “Being named a semi-finalist for the Louis Bay Future Municipal Leaders Scholarship speaks to his dedication, character, and potential to become a future leader in public service.”

The Louis Bay Future Municipal Leaders Scholarship program encourages high school juniors and seniors to explore careers in municipal government and rewards those who demonstrate exceptional interest and aptitude in the field.

As Garcia advances in the selection process, the Borough extends its full support and congratulations. His achievement is a source of pride and inspiration to others throughout the community.
