MISSION STATEMENT: EMPOWERING THE CITIZENS OF THE CHATHAMS TO MAKE THEIR HEALTH AND WELLNESS A PRIORITY.
The Mayors Wellness Committee of the Chathams is dedicated to helping community members commit to and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
The MWC is a program of the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute in partnership with the NJ League of Municipalities and supports Mayors as champions of community health.
The goal of the Mayors Wellness Committee of the Chathams is to equip mayors and other key leaders with the tools to develop and implement active-living initiatives in their communities with the intent of improving health while reducing health care costs.
The MWC meets monthly to discuss ways residents can get involved in community programs that contribute to improved health and wellness.
The MWC partners with local organizations and businesses to help sponsor and create events of value to Chatham Borough and Chatham Township residents.
Along with the environmental commissions of Chatham Borough and Chatham Township, the MWC sponsors the Sustainability Fair of the Chathams, the annual event in September at the Farmers’ Market, which promotes health, wellness, and sustainability through the use of eco-friendly products and services that offer affordable environmental solutions to sustain our communities.
Through the programs and efforts of the Mayors Wellness Committee of the Chathams, the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute designated Chatham Borough and Chatham Township Healthy Towns in 2019.
This state-wide recognition was based on the MWC application that included activities and initiatives that the MWC developed and supported during the year.
“The commitment to improving health and wellness, by these Mayors and volunteers, is impressive,” said Linda Schwimmer, President, and CEO of the Quality Institute. “It was inspiring to read their applications this year.”
The MWC produced a video about “Advance Care Planning” based on the “Conversation of Your life program developed by the NJHCQI.
This program encourages individuals and families to engage in conversations about end-of-life issues and the need for a shared understanding of personal decisions.
