 HOUSEHOLD SOLID WASTE COLLECTION

Chatham Borough is a leader in the "PAY AS YOU THROW" system of solid waste disposal using Green Bags. Solid Waste Collection is scheduled two days each week for all residential households. Please review the street listing below to determine your household's collection route and scheduled collection days.

Please follow these rules when placing Green Bags at the curb for collection:

  • OFFICIAL GREEN BAGS are available in 15-gallon and 30-gallon sizes and are sold at Kings Super Market, Dreyer’s Lumber and the Shop Rite located in Chatham Township. Black/white Hefty bags will not be collected by the Suburban Disposal.
  • Bags must be placed at curb prior to 6:00am on the day of pickup, but not before 5:00pm the night before pickup.
  • Bags placed at curb must be secured to prevent spillage of contents.
  • Bags may be placed in a garbage can at the curb to avoid animal problems. Containers must be removed from the curbside before 7:00pm on the date of collection in accordance with Borough Ordinance.

FRIDAYS are Curbside Recycling Days in Chatham Borough

The Recycling Depot, located at 99 Summit Avenue, is open to the public Saturdays 9am-12 noon

The Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority (MUA) collects recyclable materials in Chatham Borough at curbside and recommends using 32-gallon containers with lids. Recyclable items can be comingled in the container for single-stream collection; however, the MUA does not accept plastic grocery store plastic bags with your recycling because these plastic bags jam the sorting mechanisms at the recycling facility. Plastic grocery store bags can be returned to the grocery store. Most grocery stores will accept them.
