Historic Riverside Trail Video Featured in the Rails to Trails Conservancy National Magazine
The “Celebrate Trails Day” event in Chatham Borough at the Historic Riverside Trail at Shepard Kollock Park on April 27th was documented in a short video by Tom Salvas and has been selected to be in the Green Issue of the Rails to Trails Conservancy national magazine.
Resident Volunteers spread woodchips, removed invasive plants, and added native plantings at the Passaic River’s edge. Morris County Commissioners Stephen Shaw, John Krickus, Borough Mayor Carolyn Dempsey, and Councilman Justin Strickland performed the ribbon cutting where General George Washington once stood during the American Revolution.
Contributing to the success of the day were the Morris County Preservation Trust Grant Fund, our Environmental & Shade Tree Commissions, Scout and School Groups, Bee Club, Sustainable Jersey Green Team, School of Rock and the Borough Community Services and Public Works Departments.
Rails to Trails Conservancy is building a nation connected by trails through reimagining public spaces to create safe ways to be active outdoors. Rails to Trails magazine is dedicated to exploring America’s remarkable rail-trails and trail networks.
“In this special section, we highlight eight videos from our national trail community featuring trails and trail networks that are creating access to joyful, vibrant public spaces for people to unwind with family and friends, stay healthy and active, get where they need to go safely, and discover new attractions, natural wonders and historical connections. The Green Issue will be shared with our readership of 400,000+ people via email, and another 200,000+ people via RTC’s social media community.”
